While being well-educated is often what parents aspire for their children, the fact of the matter is that affording a college or university education can be a little bit out of reach for many. But maybe it’s time to redefine how you look at the concept of being well educated: after all, education is the acquisition of knowledge.
There are many ways to gain knowledge, so the actual question that you need to ask yourself is: “How have I been making myself a more educated person?”
Being stuck on the idea that you are somehow lacking because you don’t have a formal education can cause undue worry.
Surely, anyone who has been seeking a job lately may feel that “university is the new high school”–in other words, it’s almost an expectation of many employers.
But is it the college or university diploma or the ability to apply the appropriate knowledge that they’re looking for? The same applies in social situations.
Apply appropiate knowledge
When you are meeting new people, do you think that they are immediately more interested in where you went to school or what kind of person you are? For most people, the most important things that are considered are if you seem to get along with them, if they find you personable if you share common ground with them, and if you are able to bring new topics of conversation to your interactions.
People enjoy those who are able to enhance conversations with their insights on subjects, which is part of the social skills that I teach in my signature program, Secrets of the Elite Woman.
(So yes, this is a skill that can be learned, even if you are shy or feel awkward for any reason, including not possessing a fancy formal education.)
You have it within your own capability to become the kind of person that others appreciate for their knowledge!
How to share yout well-educated views
Some of the ways that you can share your well-educated views are to figure out what you really feel confident about…to understand the things that you know about, perhaps better than others. We all know things, but sometimes what we know might be about topics that others do not, or you have become very knowledgeable through exploring your passions on a topic. In my latest video, “10 Things that Tell You’re Well-Educated“, I share ways that you can show that you are a credible, knowledgeable, and well-educated person, regardless of whether you are formally educated or self-taught. I give you ways to expand your communication and display the signs of being well-educated so that you can feel confident in showing up as that person wherever you go or with whomever you are having a conversation with.
